Technology

MAPS is a classical science-fiction epic and has all the technologies required. From starships, weapons to armour and personal equipment, MAPS has everything a sci-fi story needs without letting the technology overshadow the story and characters.

But technology, and lots of it, doesn't a story make, especially classical sci-fi in the vein of Asimov. MAPS clearly states its classical roots with a distinctive style and look placed on its technology. The most obvious example are the Ghostships, wing-spread angels, sleek feminine lines hiding a vast array of missile and beam weapons, or a world destroying Startear.

A second example is in the costumes and equipment the two principle characters own. Ripumira wears a stylish red wrap about her chest and hips, carries a long barrelled laser rifle and has elbow and knee blades for her famous close combat tumbling attacks (see scenes). Gen wears realistically impractical hard armour with shoulder spikes which none-the-less is archetypical of classical sci-fi.

This page breaks the technology of MAPS up into specific groups, races and individuals. It also provides rules and ship designs for Full Thrust, a space combat rules game so you can pit Gen, Ripumira and her sisters and the Alliance against the vile Mystic Ones!

The Ghostships

Ghostships are angel (female) shaped starships. The most famous are the Ripu sisters of which Rado was the most poweful. Hidden in Gishaato's base was the entire Ghostship population, trapped and inactive until released by the Ripu and Rishipu sisters (after the latter had changed sides). Ghostships are also living ships, they have a pilot in humanoid form (all except Daato were female) making them quite unique. The pilot can control their ship remotely, but damage done to the ship is felt by the pilot. However, even if the ship is destroyed, if the pilot has not been the ship can be rebuilt. Infact, with only a copy of the 'memory' of the pilot the ship and pilot can be rebuilt.
